Solicitor: Employment
Susie undertakes a range of employment work including;
- advising on compromise agreements
- drafting and reviewing contracts of employment and staff handbooks, policies and procedures
- advising on and managing collective and individual redundancy procedures
- bringing and defending discrimination claims and unfair dismissal claims in the Employment Tribunal
- handling disciplinary, grievance and retirement procedures
Susie has a particular interest in the developing rights of agency workers and difficult issues of employment status, and also disability discrimination.
Susie completed her legal training at FSI.
Recent Work
- Reviewing and re-drafting employment contracts and policies for mid-size companies in the UK with a range of job types and working conditions
- Successfully advising various employers on formulating and running individual redundancy processes to minimise claim risk
- Advising employee clients on issues of disability discrimination, bullying and harassment, and constructive dismissal, including drafting solicitors letters, grievance letters and appeals and negotiating commercial settlement terms

Susie compiles the FSI Employment Law Briefing which is a regular newsletter summarising key developments and hot topics in employment law. She is also a regular contributor to the FSI Employment Department’s e-alerts, breakfast seminars and briefing notes.
Special Interest - Market Research
Susie spent several years working for a leading multi-national consumer goods company and is developing specialist employment law products and expertise tailored to the needs of market research agencies. The focus of this work will be managing freelancers and casual workers, protecting confidential information, minimising the competitive threat of ex-employees and optimising bonus schemes/commission arrangements, amongst other topics.
