Stephen specialises in all aspects of commercial property work, particularly in acquisition and disposal work, both freehold and leasehold primarily in relation to the retail and leisure sectors and with general landlord and tenant matters. Additional areas of expertise include investment, secured lending, telecoms, development and portfolio management.

Stephen’s clients range from private investors and quoted companies to leading operators in the retail and leisure sector and include Beaverbrooks the Jewellers, Aspers Developments Limited (part of the Aspinalls Group), X-Leisure, Monsoon, Zavvi and the Michael Testler group of companies.
Recent Work
  • Key member of the team advising Tragus Group on the property aspects of the £140 million acquisition of Strada Restaurants
  • Continuing to advise X-Leisure, the UK’s largest leisure fund, as they invest in new projects.  Recently advised on the acquisition of Cardigan fields, the leisure complex in Leeds from British Land as well as the £11.1m disposal of Cineworld Multiscreen Cinema in Sixfields, Northampton, the £9.5m purchase of the UGC cinema in Brighton and the £85.5m sale of Star City in Birmingham to REIT Asset Management
  • Advising Royletest Limited on the surrender of the lease of the Waitrose supermarket in Bournemouth and the grant of a new 20 year lease to Marks and Spencer Plc
  • Advising Aspers Casino in relation to the fit out of their 40,000 sq ft Northampton Casino.  The team also advised on the property matters for the Swansea casino which opened in September 2007.
  • Advising Maybreeze Limited on the £3.2m investment sale of a retail scheme let to M&S and Carphone Warehouse in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
