Fiona undertakes all aspects of commercial dispute prevention and resolution. Fiona’s practice particularly relates to international disputes and she enjoys a high profile in media, defamation and intellectual property law.
Fiona specialises in resolving complex commercial disputes, especially those which require the detailed application of principles of private international law, arbitration law and practice and international trade contracts.
Fiona has a broad practice advising clients in respect of claims for breach of confidence and unfair competition, advertising and publications issues, disputes regarding computer software licence agreements, claims for breach of agency agreements and other commercial contracts, especially where international conventions may have application. She is increasingly involved in representing parties in administrative and regulatory disputes including the financial services sector.
Fiona has appeared and represented clients in a wide range of judicial inquiries, regulatory, administrative and international tribunals, including the ICTY (War Crimes Tribunal) in the Hague. She is well known for her role in the Hutton Inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Dr David Kelly and her representation of international media organisations including Dow Jones & Co Inc, Washington Post and Time Inc (Fortune Magazine) in hotly contested litigation. These significant cases involved consideration of both public and private international law, internet and e-commerce law, human rights and even the laws and procedures prohibiting commercial fraud and money-laundering.
She is also regularly called in to provide strategic advice in respect of non-contentious business and property sales and acquisitions, especially for those clients who require comprehensive legal, industrial and commercial advice during corporate restructuring.
