Carolyn Brown

Partner: Head of Employment

Carolyn specialises in employment law cases particularly in the Civil Courts and the Employment Tribunal. She has a broad range of experience in employment work including advising on disputes over employment contract terms, bringing and defending statutory claims, for example, unfair dismissal and discrimination as well as advising clients on statutory rights.
Recent Work
  • Headed the team representing Darrell Hair in his claim against the ICC
  • Acting in relation to a claim against a leisure park operator for vicarious liability for the alleged acts of an employee towards contractor staff. Case dismissed at trial
  • Acting on behalf of a key player in the leisure industry in a case in which a security guard employed by the leisure operator, proposing to change gender and brought a sexual orientation discrimination case against her employer. The case was settled out of court
  • Advising a national newspaper on proposed industrial action by the workforce. No such action taken
  • Acting for a major leisure operator with regard to contractual whistleblowing and an age discrimination by the gaming industry. Case compromised
  • Advising a client from the construction industry with regard to the way they remunerate their workers
  • Advising on a demotion/constructive dismissal claim involving a leading London university college

Carolyn gives seminars on key employment issues and current topics as well as writing client briefing notes on recent developments in the employment law area and the department’s successful client email alerter service. Carolyn speaks at conferences on the issues employers face.
