FSI's full service property department also has a stand alone planning team. Head of team, Jacqueline Backhaus has been working with developers on planning applications for the past decade, and is able to advise on all aspects of the planning lifecycle.

 

OUR SERVICE:

  • Menu approach available - can be used in conjunction with rest of FSI property team or as a stand alone resource (working in partnership with other existing advisors) 
  • Can have hands-on role during the application process or simply provide pre-submission screening to ensure application moves quickly to a successful resolution

RECENT EXPERIENCE ADVISING:

  • the Rooff Group on a section 18 Appeal under the Land Compensation Act 1961 following a refusal by the London Borough of Newham of a section 17 application for a Certificate for Appropriate Alternative Development of a site within the Olympic zone. The outcome of this case is eagerly awaited by all in the compulsory purchase/planning field and will impact significantly on compensation awarded to sites compulsorily purchased within the Olympic zone
  • the East Northamptonshire Council at Public Inquiry and continue to advise them on a range of planning issues
  • Brighton and Hove County Council on their Judicial Reviews, compensation appeals and drafting contractual documents relating to concessionary transport
  • the Leader Trust on a Section 17 application for a Certificate of Appropriate Alternative Development thereby significantly increasing the value of the land
  • Stroud District Council on a significant number of planning matters throughout 2008

OUR PEOPLE:

Jacqueline Backhaus, head of planning, deals with all strategic planning issues as well as the firm’s contractual planning and inquiry work. 
Jacqueline has:

  • a track record in all planning matters including negotiating planning applications, handling appeals on a wide variety of development schemes, dealing with strategic land use planning and negotiating complex planning, highways and related agreements
  • particular expertise in compulsory purchase and compensation matters and enforcement issues
  • strong advocacy skills: Jacqueline regularly undertakes advocacy at public inquiries for both private clients and local authorities
